Dr. Kana is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, complex shoulder surgery, and general orthopaedics. Dr. Kana was born and raised on the west side of Cleveland and received his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Throughout college and prior to medical school, he was a part of a team within the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute that developed a novel iPad application for concussion assessment and management. This concussion application, C3 Logix, has been used to care for athletes of all levels throughout the greater Cleveland area and across the country.
Dr. Kana completed his medical education at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. He then completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine, arthroscopy, and shoulder surgery at the University of Illinois-Chicago/Illinois Bone & Joint Institute combined fellowship in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout his training, Dr. Kana has provided medical care for a diverse population of athletes participating in football, soccer, ice hockey, rugby, wrestling, baseball, softball, swimming, gymnastics, dance, lacrosse, basketball, golf, track, cross country, and marathon runners. Dr. Kana was privileged to be an associate team physician for Garfield Heights High School, DePaul College Prep, and the Lincoln Park Rugby Football Club. He also provided medical care for the Ohio University Men’s Hockey Club and the Midwest Rugby Football Union league championship tournament.
Dr. Kana is extremely excited to have returned to his hometown to provide orthopaedic care to the hardworking people of Cleveland. He enjoys getting to know his patients on a personal level and making sure they receive the best treatment possible, whether that be with conservative, non-surgical options or with surgical intervention. Having grown up with a father who was a physical therapist and a mother who was an occupational therapist, Dr. Kana understands the importance of a team approach in recovering from both acute and chronic musculoskeletal ailments.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Kana is an avid Cleveland sports fan and enjoys spending time with his family and friends, golfing, playing hockey, cooking and grilling. Dr. Kana is accepting new patients at the Middleburg Heights and Parma offices of NOMS Southwest Orthopaedics.
